Llama Lady recently asked me for my recommendation for a Mac Sudoku game. There are numerous choices (just do a search at MacUpdate.com or VersionTracker.com if you don't believe me) and I've only tried a few.
I am quite fond of the Sudoku Dashboard Widget found at http://www.briandeboer.com/ . It has the features I like and several levels of difficulty. Give it a look.

I've added Sudoku to my Widgets. However I don't want the auto pencil marks you have shown on your example, but I am having trouble making the manual pencil marks work for me. Guess I need more practice.
Use the "i" button to reveal the game's settings. Uncheck "Show auto-pencil marks." Toggle manual pencil mark mode with the "p" key. HTH.
